Bodybuilder Acne - How to Stop It
You post a pic of your most recent wicked pump on social media only to have people comment not on the vein-covered new muscle, but on the red bumps all over. What can you do to stop your bodybuilder acne??
- Clean
- Treat
- Prevent
First step is to CLEAN the areas you're breaking out. No, I'm not accusing you of being unclean, however, if your skin is now producing MORE oil than it had before, you'll need to also do MORE than you normally do to address it.
Get the right tools. Scrubbing your back and shoulders is so much easier with a back brush, especially if you start to build any muscle size - the muscles can literally get in the way. (Let's be real: rinsing with water is not enough, else you wouldn't have the pimples to begin with!)
Second step is to TREAT your affected areas with something stronger than just soap. Select an antimicrobial foaming wash with active ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide (10%) on problem areas like your face, chest, and shoulders.
The Benzoyl Peroxide will help deal with the excess oil, remove it and dry out what's left.
Third you want to PREVENT the zits from even forming by supplementing with Vitamin B5, also known as Pantothenic Acid helps stabilize your skin's production of oil.
Truth is acne is often the result of hormonal or dietary imbalances and ensuring you're getting enough Pantothenic Acid (B5) as a dietary supplement is an area to explore.
Start with 3 capsules 3 times daily for the first 2 months. After the first week results could be noticeable. Keep it up for 2 months, then lower the dosage to 2 capsules 2 times daily for next 4 months. Then reduce down to 2 capsules daily to ensure it stays clear.
Your acne won't clear up without extra effort on your part but you CAN work to reduce it and bring it under control so the focus is back on your impressive gains and not oily volcanoes on your skin.
"But what about ACCUTANE??"
Accutane (isotretinoin) is one of those drugs that the benefit really isn't worth the side effects. It destroys your liver, dries out and scars your lips, hinders your ability to exercise by causing significant muscle aches, and can severely affect your mood and psychological well-being. I strongly advise against it and if you do take it, take the very least, smallest dose possible.
